Wondering about the trailer’s features, its efficacy? Why don’t you check it out yourself?
A peek inside Hanks Airstream
Bought in 1993, Hanks’ 33-foot long Airstream is unlike any other trailer. It’s customized according to the actor’s liking and has top-class furniture and other amenities. It comes with a comfy white couch, a polished table and chair set, and an artificial fireplace. It also has an in-built kitchen and a small yet beautiful bathroom with a Hollywood-lights mirror and a Hank autographed air-conditioner. For old time’s sake, it even has stickers from the 18 locations it has been to.
While talking with Bonhams Magazine, the actor revealed the story behind the trailer. He said that he bought it at a time when movies moved slower. In those days, there was a lot of free time between takes, and one could easily use that to rehearse or relax in their vanity. Hanks continued that by the time he was signed for Sleepless in Seattle, he had been in many regular trailers and was frustrated with them. He said almost every other trailer had an ugly décor and uncomfortable furniture, so he decided to buy an Airstream of his own.
While purchasing, the actor made sure there was nothing in-built except for the kitchen and bathroom. He joked that unless you’ve survived a thunderstorm in an Airstream, you haven’t lived well. The 65-year-old actor added that he wanted the space to have a homely vibe, so he ditched fancy attachments and decorated the trailer as per his wish. He noted that everyone who visited his Airstream wished to buy one for themselves; such was the charm of the 90’s beauty.
Where and for how much will Hanks’ trailer be auctioned?
Hanks Airstream will be sold at Bonhams’ annual Quail Lodge Auction in Carmel, California, for around $150,000 to $250,000. It’ll feature along with his 2010 Ford F-450 Pickup Truck, customized 1980 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser, and 2015 Tesla Model S P85D.
The presale price of the other vehicles is estimated to be between $70,000 – $100,000, $70,000 – $125,000, and $70,000 – $100,000, respectively. Guess, Hanks is gonna upgrade his garage!
