The past two years have been quite tough on the royal family after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle parted ways and all the drama that followed.
People worldwide were shocked to see this side of the royal family, and soon ill sentiment started to develop. The royal family faced a great amount of criticism regarding their behavior and discrimination towards mixed-race American actress Meghan Markle but, no one could’ve imagined what was to come next.
Death of the Duke
On April 9th of 2021, Buckingham Palace released a statement informing the world that the Duke of Edinburgh had passed away at the age of 99, only 2 months before his 100th birthday. He was the longest-serving royal consort in all of British history. Though the cause of death hasn’t been disclosed yet, many assume it was due to natural causes because of his age. The Queen of England has been mourning her husband and was reported saying that the death of Prince Philip has left a huge void in her life.
The Queen of England at the Funeral
At the funeral processions of Prince Philip, people were saddened to see the Queen sitting alone in the pews of St. George’s Chapel. In the photo, the Queen is shown to be sitting in all-black apparel by herself, highlighting it as a heartbreaking moment that marked the end of their 73-year marriage.
The Reunion
Another one of the key moments that caught the public’s eye was the reunion of Prince Harry and Prince William after a year. In the funeral ceremony, which was reported to be around an hour-long, the two brothers were spotted chatting and walking together for the first time after the famous Oprah Winfrey interview that shocked the world.
Throughout the funeral, the royal family paid tribute to the late Duke of Edinburgh. One of them was placing the Duke’s cap and gloves on the carriage, paying tribute to one of his beloved passions.
Many military-led tributes also took place to demonstrate Prince Philip’s service to the royal navy. Another detail was the custom Land Rover hearse, all in military green color and customized by the Prince himself.
During the first procession, Prince Charles – the Queen’s heir and their eldest son – walked behind the coffin. Beside him was his sister, Princess Anne. They were then followed by their younger brother, Prince Andrew, and Prince Edward, who was then followed by the grandsons, Prince William, Prince Peter Philip, and Prince Harry.
