The world was taking its sweet time recovering from the recent drama that has been surrounding the royal family until the unimaginable happened. On 9th April, Buckingham Palace released a statement informing the world of the demise of Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh.

He was only 2 months away from celebrating his 100th birthday. Condolences and tributes started pouring in from all corners of the world, and many were saddened to hear about the death.

The Reunion

Many were surprised to see Prince Harry fly back home for the funeral, but due to the late stage of pregnancy, Meghan Markle was unable to join him. The funeral featured lists of tributes in the name of the late Duke, and some of the preparation was made by the Prince himself.

The royal family, all draped in black, mourning the longest living consort in British History. The Queen was pictured sitting by herself in one of the pews of St. George’s Chapel, a scene many found heartbreaking.

The Handwritten Note

She also honored her late husband with a personal touch, as she wrote a note that was placed on the coffin of the Duke of Edinburgh. The Queen had even signed it with her nickname that she was given as a child – Lilibet. Buckingham Palace has requested privacy during these grieving times and rightfully so, as it marked the end of the 73-year-long marriage of the Queen and the Duke.

Life after Prince Philip will be hard for the Queen, but a source close to the royal family revealed that now, the Queen will be accompanied by a family member for future meetings and gatherings. It is something that her late husband would’ve wanted – continuing the life of service.

Prince Philip will always be remembered for his duties and service to the British Navy. When he retired from his services and royal duties, it was stated that he had completed 22,219 solo engagements and 5,493 speeches since 1952.
