The winner in this category is Iredell Health, a nonprofit organization committed to promoting the health and wellbeing of the community and its employees. Iredell Health has managed to claim the title for three consecutive years, and in 2022, it received an extraordinary rating of 86.15 which resulted in the nonprofit leading the list of organizations with 500-1,499 employees.

The Star of the Show
For many people, this might be the first time that they might be hearing about Iredell Health, but there is a strong reason because of why the nonprofit was able to win the Charlotte Business Journal’s Healthiest Employers of Greater Charlotte Award on the road to the recognition wasn’t easy. Iredell Health had to fill out an extensive survey which the Healthiest Employers LLC then evaluated.
The questions in the survey were centered around health and wellness, and it asked the nonprofit about the benefits it provides to its employees, such as insurance, paid time off, COVID-19 protocol, and workplace amenities. The Employers had to respond in a score-based manner and if they managed to score above the national average then they made it to the ranking.
The Award-winning Nonprofit
April Johnson, who is a benefits specialist and wellness coordinator working at Iredell Health, spoke about the organization and mentioned that Iredell Health is a community-based nonprofit that aims to normalize the conversation around well-being. Johnson continued and stated that the winning of the award basically solidifies the faith of the public in Iredell Health since they now know that the organization is solely committed to promoting wellness not only for the community but for the employees as well.
Iredell Health has an interesting initiative that encourages its employees to take control of their lives and make healthier choices regarding their lifestyles. To keep this wellness program running smoothly, the organization has even hired employee wellness ambassadors from internal departments. Their goal is to come together and coordinate events and challenges that would support the cause.
The employees are encouraged to take part through a point-collecting system which helps them to avail discounts on insurance premiums; the more points that an employee earns, the more discount they will receive. Iredell Health noticed that a significant number of its employees took part in the challenges while simultaneously achieving their health goals.
