The fashion industry was rocked when one of the greatest and most lauded personalities met his demise.
We’re talking about none other than Karl Lagerfeld, a prolific designer at luxury brand Chanel, whose contributions to the fashion world, and even his eponymous brand, made them what they are today.
At 85, the man was known for his eccentricity, staple black sunglasses, and white hair, which distinguished him as an edgy and daring fashion designer.
But the man was also a vocal critique and had a nonchalant attitude when it came to voicing his opinions. But despite his tough exterior, Lagerfeld had a soft heart.
Soft Heart for a Fluffy Cat
Lagerfeld may have been criticized for his controversial nature but one of the things he was admired for the most was his love for a Birman cat named Choupette he had had since late 2011.
The designer’s love for the feline was far from unnoticeable since he was pretty vocal when it came to his adorable pet.
In fact, in a 2013 interview, the highly acclaimed Chanel powerhouse even explained that he would have married the white cat if it were legal.
The man had also given Choupette a much-deserved life any cat or human can ever imagine.
For most of us who dream of becoming a superstar, it seems that the road to success is pretty tough and ugly. But for the adorable animal, there’s nothing like that – all thanks to the star power and influence of his late owner, Lagerfeld.
Despite his master being one of the most looked up to designers in the fashion world, the feline is a celebrity on her own.
Choupette’s Lavish Lifestyle
Choupette has pretty much enjoyed a luxurious life most of us can just dream about – that’s because Lagerfeld devoted most of his time and money to her.
In an interview in 2015, Lagerfeld explained that anyone can fall in love with the cat because there’s something about her, and the way she plays, her adorable antics that captures onlookers’ attention.
That said, it is pretty understandable how the man can be so generous when it comes to the animal.
For one, Lagerfeld appointed two maids for Choupette who will play with her, maintain her gorgeous white fur, and pamper her with beauty treatments.
The cat also shared the same table as the designer since the two were very close and ate meals together twice a day. The feline was so spoiled that she allegedly hated to eating on the floor like most animals.
Her enviable lifestyle has made her famous within months – now, she has more than 200,000 followers on Instagram.
Her worldwide prominence even made her land two ad campaigns for a beauty product and a car, making the sophisticated cat already a millionaire in her own rights.
However, Choupette’s bank account may be ballooning even more after the death of Lagerfeld. Apparently, she’s an heiress to a chunk of the designer’s fortune.
Inheritance
In an interview, Lagerfeld announced that Chouepette was just one of those who will take some of his money once he dies.
She is reportedly getting an estimated $195 million, but some may say that the cat may not get the amount since they lived in France, where the law doesn’t permit that animals inherit money.
To this, the man previously said that he was lucky he isn’t French – he is German and in their law, this was allowed.
Indeed, Choupette is set to become one of the wealthiest cats in the world. The one reigning supreme is Blackie, a British cat who got a whopping $9.15 million in 1988 from his owners’ will.
She can easily quash the top-placer if she ever got her paws on the whopping amount left to her by Lagerfeld, but what she can’t beat is the richest animal in the world, which is Gunther IV, a German Shepherd who received $375 million from his father who inherited the sum from his countess master.
Despite the sum she is about to receive, Choupette seems to be mourning rather than rejoicing. In an Instagram post, she said that she is heartbroken over the passing of her beloved master.
