If you were to describe your mother in one word, how would you do it? For most people, the word would either be caring, loving, supporting, or the world! But unlike them, Angelina Jolie’s children call her a superhero.
Recently, while speaking with People for their new issue, Angelina Jolie revealed that her children believe her role in the upcoming movie Eternals resembles her real-life personality. They imagine her as a strong yet loving woman who can achieve anything she wishes.
Jolie’s candid interview
Jolie, whose upcoming film Eternals is about to hit the theaters on November 5, 2021, while talking with People, said that out of all 30 characters she has played in her acting career, her children find Thena most like her. Though she admitted her kids haven’t watched many of her movies, she finds it really interesting how they compare her with a superhero. Another thing that puzzles her is that since Thena portrays so many different aspects, where does it leave her in her children’s eyes.
Chloé Zhao, the director of Eternals who was also present during the conversation, credited Jolie for the existence of Thena. The 39-year-old added that if it wasn’t for Jolie, the character wouldn’t exist today. The Nomadland director further explained that Thena’s role demanded grace, femininity, and strength at the same time. And thanks to Jolie’s skill set and talent, they were able to pull it off easily.
When asked what starring in a Marvel movie felt like, the Mr. & Mrs. Smith star said that getting an opportunity as big as this aged 46 was a big deal. She continued that she never thought she would ever pick up a weapon again or do such intense fight scenes, that too in a Marvel Universe movie! Speaking about her role, Jolie described that the action bit wasn’t what really attracted her to Thena. Instead, the struggling side of her made Jolie fall in love with the character.
Zhao, who was also questioned about Thena and how Jolie justified the role, said she finds herself lucky that Jolie agreed to play Thena in the first place. Praising the mother of six, Zhao continued that she wanted someone who could relate with the character and find a spot for it in their own life. And thankfully, Jolie was the one and could bond with Thena in no time. Commenting on the actor’s life, the director said that she has lived one hell of a life and was ready to be vulnerable in front of the camera. This quality of her differentiates her from the crowd and makes her worthy of being called “brave.”
“An experienced one!”
Zhao even pointed out how Jolie contributed to the directing and producing part. She explained that since Jolie has directed four movies herself, she knows how things work and how much effort is required to tell a story that people fall in love with. She continued that to ask almost 700 people to wait from 12 o’clock to 5:30 p.m. just to capture scenes in less takes needs a lot of understanding from people, and thanks to her lovely cast, she never struggled with it.
