We live in a world that is driven by social media, and, as it turns out, babies of celebrities are known to be internet-traffic-generating gold! There isn’t one media outlet that would refuse to feature an unshared picture of any celebrity baby if they were offered to; they’re well aware of the potential advantage of it; first an increase in traffic, and then an increase in exposure.
Violating Boundaries
A year ago, Indian celebrity couple Anushka Sharma and Virat Kholi welcomed a baby daughter. Ever since the birth of their toddler Vamika, the couple has, time and again, denied requests and advances of having the pictures of their daughter published. However, Entertainment Times went against their views and released a picture of Vamika at the Mumbai airport.
This clearly shows the media’s disregard for the need for consent when revealing private or family pictures to the world. It also shows how society is unnecessarily obsessed with celebrities’ children, which pushes the media even more so to do it. This is also a case that shows how people set certain boundaries and the media violates them regardless.
Another celebrity’s child was born in 2011 that caught the world’s attention. It was Aaradhya Bachchan and the intrigue and interest around her were majorly unhealthy! The media had constantly been nagging the family to get a picture of the infant, people were wondering what name she was going to be given, and even astrologers were interested in her as they made predictions as to what the future held for her. Similarly, only a few years later, Actors Saif Ali Khan and Kareena Kapoor welcomed their baby boy and named him Taimur Ali Khan. Indians became so obsessed with the child that they went on to create a doll after him. The dolls hit the market and were sold in 2018!
Why Are People Obsessed?
The question is: why are people obsessed with these babies? When two famous people decide to have a baby, the newborn just becomes a superstar as soon as they are born! People demand to know about the lives of celebrities but that’s fairly easy to figure out. What’s relatively rare is their babies, and what’s even rarer than that is getting the babies’ pictures. The rarer these photos become, the more they are desired.
However, no matter how cute the media or the world finds these babies to be, it is still wrong to violate the boundaries and consent of the people! Celebrities, indeed, choose to have a public life where paparazzi take pictures taken of them. But, that isn’t an issue. Their children, however, are private citizens, which is why the media should be considerate when it comes to releasing private pictures.
