Life isn’t always about enjoying the good days. It’s about fighting the bad ones too. Guess that’s what Amy Schumer is doing.
After going through an endometriosis surgery in mid-September, Schumer is recovering well. She not only feels stronger now but is also more thrilled about life and what will come her way in the future.
An update on Schumer’s health
On September 25, 2021, Schumer took to Instagram to share an update on her health. The 40-year-old, whose uterus and appendix were removed due to extensive endometriosis (a condition where the tissue outlining the uterus grows externally), shared a few pictures of herself along with an audio of her conversation with her surgeon, Dr. Tamer Seckin. She even detailed her medical conditions and her theory about the disease.
Schumer informed her followers that she was diagnosed with a tumor in her endo ravaged appendix a while ago, and her eyes tear up every time she finds something new about her medical condition. The Trainwreck star opened up about suffering from chocolate cysts in both ovaries, endo of the uterus, and PCOS. She added that now that she has overcome all those issues, she feels like a whole new person. Moreover, she’s very excited about being reunited with her son Gene and husband, Chris Fischer.
If you hear the audio shared by the actress, you’ll learn that Seckin removed 30 specimens from her body, out of which 26 were of endometriosis. This made her think that there might be a link between her past condition and hyperemesis gravidarum. ICYDK, Schumer suffered from hyperemesis gravidarum (a condition that causes extreme nausea and vomiting in pregnant women) during her pregnancy. Though she doesn’t have any medical reports to back her claim, she thinks if there’s more research conducted in the particular field, it can be of great help to other women.
Schumer revealed that over 10% of women have endometriosis. If people start studying the disease instead of only focusing on erectile dysfunction, women wouldn’t have to experience the unbearable pain they usually do.
Schumer’s pregnancy and her take on having more babies
In August 2020 during an appearance on Sunday Today with Willie Geist, Schumer said she isn’t planning more babies at the moment. She disclosed that her son was born through IVF, which was quite tough on her, and she’s not at all ready to go through the same procedure again. The Snatched lead said she and her husband have thought about hiring a surrogate, but they’re delaying that plan for now.
Earlier in April 2020, on Howard Stern’s SiriusXM radio show, Schumer said the pandemic had stopped her from conceiving the second child. She explained she had embryos ready and was about to make a move, but then the pandemic happened, and she changed her mind.
