Some things are evergreen. No matter how many years pass by, they always stay fresh in people’s minds. Guess Disney’s 1991 animated movie Beauty and the Beast is one of them.
Beauty and the Beast, which hit the theaters on November 22, 1991, recently completed its 30th anniversary, and its cast said it feels as if it was just yesterday they shot it. The movie, which collected $425 million at the global box office, not only made a place in people’s hearts but also earned a spot in the voice cast’s memory.
Here’s what different members revealed about their experiences when shooting the iconic movie.
A walk back in time…
While talking to The Hollywood Reporter, the cast of Beauty and the Beast recalled the fun moments they spent on sets. Paige O’Hara, who voices Belle, disclosed that when she was recording the Broadway soundtrack with fellow teammate Angela Lansbury, it was a dream come true moment for her.
Once they wrapped up the musical, everyone was teary-eyed, and it just felt amazing. That very soundtrack earned them a lot of awards. Plus, the film even became the first animated movie to receive a best-picture Oscar nomination. Not bad, right?
But among the many achievements, the part that makes the cast most proud of the film is that segments from it are still relevant to the current generation. For instance, the fact that the princess can alone find a way for herself even without any prince charmings help connect with people’s mentality today and inspires women around the globe.
Richard White, who voices Gaston, said that Paige showed women and girl children around the world that hobbies like reading can be more important than other things. Also, they can follow their dreams no matter what they are or which field they belong to.
O’Hara agreed with White and added that if it weren’t for characters like Belle and Ariel, Mulan wouldn’t exist today. She continued that Princesses are getting stronger and better day by day, and now they don’t need a man to find happiness. Speaking about the Beast, the 65-year-old said that he just happened to be a part of Belle’s life, but she wasn’t looking for him, which anyone who has watched the movie would agree with.
Bradley Pierce, aka Chip in the movie, said that youngsters can take away a lot of life lessons from Beauty and the Beast. Comparing Gaston and the Beast, Pierce explained that even though Gaston looked perfect and the Beast looked horrible, they were completely different people on the inside.
They were just the opposite of their looks. While Gaston was a dark person much like the Beast, he was incapable of love, which was totally unlike the Beast.
Summing it up!
Just like this classic, there are many other animated movies that teach a lot to their viewers. Therefore, parents should motivate their children to watch something that’s benefitting for them in the long run, and not the other way round.
